1. it’s quick and pain-free
In the past, laser hair removal has been painful due to old technology using IPL systems. When choosing hair removal, always ask what laser machine the clinic chooses. We have a tri-cluster diode laser at Younger Beauty that uses the latest skin cooling technology. Tri-cluster means the laser uses three different wavelengths of light; therefore, we can treat all skin types and most hair colours. The results are quick and, most importantly, pain-free.
We asked our client Gemma to give us a bit of information about her underarm laser hair removal treatment.
“I found it to be quick. It wasn’t painful but a slight sensation of warmth in the area. Where my hair was the thickest and darkest, I found that I was slightly aware of more heat, but Nicky’s cooling technology settled it straight down. I couldn’t believe how painless it was and so so quick! I have tried hair removal previously and, to be honest, was reluctant to try again as it hurt, and I didn’t get the results I had hoped. I had heard about Younger Beauty, and a few people had said how quick and painless it was, so I thought I would give it a go… I have been so impressed that I sent three more of my friends who have also been delighted.”
2. you need to be patient
It takes two or three weeks after your first treatment to see a difference, and it can take up to 8-12 treatments to get the total result. Some people get quicker results than others depending on their hair type, explained at the consultation. You also have to be regular with your appointments because your hair follicles are all at different stages of their growth, so you want to make sure that you catch each hair follicle at its different cycle.
“Laser hair removal gets to the root of the problem, literally,” says Sarah Monaghan at Younger Beauty Laser and Aesthetics clinic. “The laser will target the hair in its active growth stage. Clients may see changes in the hair appearance after their first treatment, such as finer and less noticeable, but unless you are willing to go through a course and commit to regular sessions, you won’t get the optimal
3. you need to shave before you have your treatment
This took me by surprise! Not having to grow your hair! I was always put off waxing as I never wanted to grow my hair. The laser can react with hair on the skin’s surface which will cause some irritation and maybe dreaded burnt hair smell, so the less hair, the better. We request shaving at home, and then often, we will go over the area again to ensure the best and most painless experience.
So many people still believe that shaving causes thicker darker hair! A typical beauty myth that we have to explain to clients every
4. it’s such a fast process
The actual treatment is so fast. For example, an underarm takes about 30 seconds from prep to laser and cooling. More extensive areas take slightly longer; however, it’s not uncommon for people to come for multiple locations in one session.
You will always have a consultation and post-treatment advice before treatment.
5. avoid the gym or exercise straight after treatment
The heat from the laser stays in your skin for 24 hours, so no gym, saunas, hot showers. You run the risk of creating a lovely warm environment for bacteria to multiply and give you spots if you do.
6. you need to be aware of sun exposure
You may well need to avoid sunbathing and sun
exposure as much as possible before and after treatment. Also, if you have a tan, you’ll need to wait till it fades before starting your treatment, as the darker the pigmentation of the skin, the more the laser is absorbed into the skin. At Younger Beauty, we insist o a consultation and patch test before treatment. At this time, laser technicians will discuss any upcoming holidays that might affect the timing of your appointments.
7. you might need to change your skincare products before treatment
Scrubs, glycolic acid, and retinol creams should be avoided two days before and after treatment. It’s recommended that for two weeks before and after laser, you avoid chemical peels and similarly, you should wait 1-2 weeks before using fake tan.
8. additional benefits
The laser has additional benefits of reducing growing hairs. It encourages straight hair growth for those who struggle with waxing due to ingrowing hairs and irritated skin from shaving.
In summary, our best advice before choosing laser hair removal at Younger Beauty would be the following.
• Fake tanning products cannot be used 3-4 weeks before treatment; the area should be thoroughly exfoliated to remove all residues.
• The area must be cleanly shaved within 24 hours before the treatment.
• Do not be tempted to pluck any hairs between treatments as you need the hair follicles in the different stages to get the best results.
• The treatment area needs to be free from makeup, lotion, deodorant and sun cream.
• The area cannot be treated if exposed to a significant amount of sun within four weeks before treatment.
